Fall has fallen and the termination dust is real. The good life continues on in the Greater Palmer Metroplex and beyond. This Labor Day weekend is full of fun stuff.
It’s Cosplay Day at the Fair today. Dress up as your favorite superhero or movie or anime character. Mingle at the Cosplay Meet and Greet at 1 p.m. at the MVFCU Event Hall near the Purple Gate.
Country singer Max McNown plays at the Borealis Theater on the fairgrounds at 7 p.m. tonight.
Were you a fan of “Hair Metal” in the 1980s and ‘90s? The giant of the genre, Twisted Sister, performs tomorrow night at the Borealis Theater. Twisted Sister has been a mainstay in the glam metal scene since the 70’s. Founding members play with former Skid Row lead singer Sebastian Bach. He even plays a few Skid Row songs. You get two Hair Metal legends in one show.
If metal music is not your thing, the Demolition Derby is at Grandstand on the fairgrounds tomorrow night at 5 p.m. Tickets are limited, so get your tickets in advance.

The musical “Come From Away” opens tomorrow night at the Glenn Massay Theater. It is based on the true story of the town Gander, Newfoundland, playing host to the world September 11, 2001. An average day in a small town turned into an international sleepover. 38 planes carrying thousands of people diverted to the Gander airstrip.
The people of Gander mobilized to provide food, medicine, shelter, and comfort to the stranded travelers. Cultural barriers and unease gave way to generosity, open bars, and lasting friendships.

“The Phantom Tollbooth” opens tomorrow at the Valley Performing Arts theater. The play is adapted from the classic children’s novel by Norton Juster. A bored boy named Milo travels through a magical tollbooth into the Land of Wisdom. It runs through September 20. Tickets and show information are at vpaalaska.org
Work on the Gold Cord Lake Trail continues this weekend. Volunteers meet at the parking lot at Independence Mine on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. They return at 3:30 p.m. Volunteers continue the project to improve the trail tread and drainage of Gold Cord Lake Trail. Make a cool glass window hanging on Sunday at the Art Cafe. Instructors guide you through working with scrap glass and some bead/jewelry ephemera to create the window hanging. Items are glued on a square of glass and the piece is grouted. This Flowers Glass on Glass Mosaic making class is at 1 p.m. at the Art Cafe on East Blueberry Avenue in Palmer. Monday is Labor Day. Schools and government offices are closed. It’s the last day of the Fair. Lyle Lovett is the final act at the Borealis Theater. Lovett is a singer, composer and actor. He is known for songs like “If I Had a Boat,” “She’s No Lady” and “Cowboy Man.” Lovett takes the stage at 6 p.m. information is at alaskastatefair.org
A three day weekend, a musical and a play, and Lyle Lovett at the State Fair. Another fantastic weekend is coming down the tracks right at us. Get out and have some fun this long weekend.
