Wow! That was an amazing three weeks of the State Fair. Well done to all involved! The drone show was extraordinary. We look forward to the Fair next year and the new Borealis Theater.
With the Fair over, it may seem that there is nothing left to do except sit around the house. Wrong! There is still nifty stuff to do in the Greater Palmer Metroplex.
This is the final week of the musical Come From Away at the Glenn Massay Theater. It’s based on the incredible true story about the people of Gander, Newfoundland and how they overcame the darkness of 9/11. The reviews of the musical have been great.
The producers of Come From Away invite our military members and first responders to a free performance tonight. No ticket is required for anyone who has served, is still serving, is a firefighter, is a police officer, or any kind of first responder! The performance starts at 7 p.m. at the Glenn Massay Theater.
There’s a show on Friday at 7 p.m. The final two shows are on Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
There will be a cast Q&A with the audience following the performance on Friday night. Everyone is invited to stay, watch, and ask any questions. Feel free to ask questions about the show, cast members, or experiences regarding that fateful day.

Friday is the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Local fire stations and municipal halls will display colors and hold a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. to honor the victims and Alaskan first responders. Let’s all take a moment tomorrow morning to reflect on what occurred on that fateful day.
The Valley Performing Arts 51st season continues with performances of The Phantom Tollbooth this weekend and next. There will be an interpreted performance for the hearing impaired next Saturday, September 19. Tickets and show information are at vpaalaska.org.
Nervix Rex performs tomorrow night and H3, the Alaskan Hawaiian Reggae Band, on Saturday night at the Palmer Ale House. Bands hit the stage at 7 p.m. These are free, all ages, outdoors, rain or shine shows. Attendees under 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Solo Steve Norwood plays at Hatcher Pass Lodge on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Join a weekend ramble in the Matanuska Greenbelt with Susan Beeman on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.The Greenbelt includes miles of trails through mixed forest and along glacial moraines. This six mile-ish loop starts and ends beside farm fields. It follows a shared single track trail up and down small hills and around kettle ponds.
