Mat-Su Planning for Transportation hosts an open house today from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the new Gateway Visitor Center off of the Glenn Highway near the Interchange. Stop by and learn about the draft Mat-Su 2050 Plan. This is the Valley’s first ever long range transportation roadmap. It decides which projects can get federal dollars over the next 25 years. The second Flip the Script features candidates running for the Mat-Su Borough Assembly and School Board. It’s at 6 p.m. tonight at the Palmer Depot. The Mat-Su Sentinel introduced Flip the Script last year as an alternative to the traditional candidate forum. Flip the Script pairs brief candidate remarks with live, anonymous audience polling. The event is free and includes refreshments.

The annual Youth Summit takes place at the Glenn Massay tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The summit centers on youth experiences and creating solutions to combat drug and alcohol abuse. It includes panel discussions with youth leaders and experts in the field. The event is free and includes lunch. More information is available on the 2026 Youth Summit Facebook page.

Join Mat-Su forest friends for a Fall Foliage Hike and Community Cleanup on Saturday at 10 a.m. at Mat-Su College. Celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Hidden Arboretum. Enjoy a guided tour of this unknown spot. The walk through the Hidden Arboretum is flat and the Greenbelt hike is less than two miles round trip. Hikers meet at the Snodgrass Trailhead on the Mat-Su College campus near the back parking lot. Trash bags and grabbers will be provided. Help keep our trails beautiful. Author Jamez Terry signs copies of his debut book, See You in the Mail, at Fireside Books, on Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.

The Palmer Arts Council hosts the second annual artist studio tour on Saturday from 5 to 9 p.m. This self-guided tour in the Palmer area includes artists’ studios and businesses hosting artists. Participants receive an event map. They visit the participating locations at their own speed. Each stop has appetizers and beverages to enjoy. Everyone gathers at Lekker for raffle prizes and more at 8 p.m. Tickets and information are at palmerarts.org.

The Alaska State Fair Holiday Bazaar is this weekend and next. Jumpstart holiday shopping with gifts from more than 100 vendors. Find clothing, art, knives, jewelry, glasswork, quilts, antiques, food products, furniture, woodwork, books, and more at the bazaar. Admission is free. Food trucks keep shoppers fueled. It’s potato harvest day on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at Rebarchek Farm on the Alaska State Fairgrounds. Bring a hand trowel, shovel, or spade. Cost is $5 per group to get a mesh bag to harvest potatoes. Enjoy tours of the historic farmhouse and renovated barns, kids activities, and more. Check alaskastatefair.org for info.

The Reindeer Farm Fall Family Fun Event is on Saturday and the next two weekends. There will be games, mazes, petting and photos with reindeer, and more. See reindeerfarm.com for tickets and details.

Get an early start on Halloween-themed handicrafts on Sunday at 2 p.m. at The Art Cafe. Create a 6″ x 6″ holiday themed mosaic pumpkin! This class is appropriate for all skill levels.
