It’s another fun-filled weekend in the Greater Palmer Metroplex.
Mark Morris plays the Palmer Alehouse Unplugged tonight at 6 p.m.
The Glacier Blues Band plays at the Four Corners Lounge tomorrow and Saturday nights at 9 p.m.
The Mat-Su College Art Gallery presents an exhibition of work by Michael Conti. He is a professor of Photography and Video Art at UAA. The opening reception is tomorrow from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Mat-Su College Art Gallery.
The Art Cafe in Palmer is hosting artist Mimi DeGange. DeGange is an RN who loves to draw, paint, and spend time in the mountains. She works in multiple mediums. Come visit with her, nibble snacks, and soak up her art from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Art Cafe on East Blueberry Avenue in Palmer.
Planning on getting married soon? Hosting a special event? Come to the Fifth Annual Mat-Su Special Events and Wedding Expo on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m at Raven Hall on the Alaska State Fairgrounds. Admission is free.
The Winter Discovery Day at the Government Peak Recreation Area is on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is hosted by Mat-Su Trails and Parks Foundation and Revel Treks & Tours.
This free event is designed to connect locals to winter recreation opportunities and resources. Come for gear demonstrations, info tables from local organizations, and educational exhibits. Let’s enjoy the winter while it’s still here.
The First Saturday Vendor Market is at the Borough Gym in Palmer on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All are welcome to come and explore local crafts.
Looking forward to gardening season? The UAF Matanuska Experiment Farm is hosting a seed swap at the farm tomorrow from 4 to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bring seed packets to swap and take some seed packets home with you. Packets can be opened. Drop in any time during the designated hours.
Getting ready for the running season? The Crazy Lazy is almost upon us. Join the race directors for a preview of the course. If you are unfamiliar with the course and want to experience it, this is your chance. The group leaves promptly at 9:30 a.m. from the Lazy Mountain trailhead parking lot.
Speaking of running, the 54th Annual Iditarod is starting this weekend. The ceremonial start is in Anchorage on Saturday at 10 a.m. The restart is in Willow on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Newsies wraps up its run at the Glenn Massay Theater. It runs tonight, tomorrow, and Saturday nights. Tickets and show information are at GlennMassayTheater.com
Rex’s Exes at the Valley Performing Arts is sold out for this weekend’s final performances. Congratulations to the cast and crew of this funny show. We look forward to VPA’s next production of Roald Dahl’s classic “Willy Wonka” at the Glenn Massay. Ticket and show information are at vpaalaska.org.
Don’t forget Daylight Saving Times starts this weekend. Clocks jump ahead an hour at 2 a.m. Sunday morning.
Spring Break starts this upcoming Monday for the Mat-Su Borough School District. Today is the last day for students. Teachers have a work day tomorrow.
It’s getting close to the final day to apply for the PFD. The deadline is March 31st at 11:59 p.m. Don’t forget to apply, if you haven’t already done so.
