Page 2 Oct 24: So Much to Do, So Little Time

Oct 24, 2025 | Page 2 News

It’s time for Page Two: news that might not make the front page on Friday, October 24, 2025.

Too many songs have lyrics about having nothing to do. Get ready. That’s not the case this weekend.

Palmer gets spooky tonight. The Palmer Chamber’s annual Trick or Treat Street returns  from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m to downtown Palmer. Trick-or-treat at businesses throughout downtown, go on hayrides and more! Candy plus fun – it doesn’t get better than that. Big Cabbage Radio Pirates will be handing out candy as well.

Do you like to dress up for dinner? Then the Set Free Alaska Gala is for you. Set Free is hosting their AS ONE fundraising at 6 p.m. at the Bryce Ray Community Center at 7010 E. Bogard Rd. Dinner, dessert, live music and prizes.

Sweeney Todd the Demon Barber of Fleet Street opens tonight at the Glenn Massay. Curtains are up at 7 p.m. on Fridays, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturdays and 2 p.m on Sundays. Tickets are available at Glenn M assay Theater or at the door. The show runs through November 12th.

Radium Girls ends its three week-run with performances on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m at Valley Performing Arts. Radium Girls offers a wry, unflinching look at American obsessions with health, wealth, and the commercialization of science. Tickets are on sale at Valley Performing Arts  and at the door.

Grab a coffee and get ready for Saturday!

The day starts with the DEA National Prescription RX TAKEBACK. Drop unused or expired medications at the Fred Meyer stores in Palmer and Wasilla between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Turn in unused medications to reduce prescription drug abuse and accidental poisoning and to protect the water and the environment. The medication should be in the original packaging or a generic bag.

The Valley Collector Con is at the Borough Gym from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. This is a family friendly event for collectors and anyone who enjoys comics, Pokemon, and more.

Support local schools by attending Trunk or Treat with the Palmer FFA at Palmer High from 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m. or the Pioneer Peak Fall Festival from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m. at Pioneer Peak Elementary.

Up at Hatcher Pass Lodge Cold Country will warm you up from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.

The Palmer Fall Studio Tour sponsored by the Palmer Arts Council starts at 5 p.m. Visit local artists in their studios, in local businesses throughout Palmer, and at the Palmer Museum of History and Art. Tickets are available at Fireside Books and online at Palmer Arts Council .

It’s movie night at the firehouse! Station 33 on Clark Rd in Palmer is showing the film Planes, Fire and Rescue. The fun starts with popcorn at 6 p.m. It’s free and bring a blanket or chair to sit on.

Colony High senior George Burlingame is directing his own radio drama for the school’s fall theater production. Burlingame’s  horror play, Judgment and Deliverance, will air live on Big Cabbage Radio on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 at the door at Colony High or listen on the radio or on bigcabbageradio.org.

Scare up a costume because the Mighty Monster Boo Fest returns to the Fairgrounds from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. There’s live music by Agents of Karma, a costume contest,  and a silent auction.  It’s a 21 or older event. Bring your valid ID and plan a safe ride home. Tickets are available online at alaskastatefair.org at $40 each and just $10 for Designated Drivers.

There’s more though! The annual Palmer Alley Cat Bike Game starts at 6:30 p.m. at Backcountry Bike and Ski. Pedal your way through clues, solve puzzles at each stop, and piece together the evidence to reveal who did it, where, and with what in a two-wheeled game of real-life Clue.

This weekend like the lyrics in The Only Living Boy in New York by Simon and Garfunkel – I’ve got nothing to do but smile.

Rest up on Sunday because the fun continues Monday night with the movie fundraiser for Hatcher Pass Avalanche Center at the Glenn Massay. The film After the Snowfall is a celebration of skiing. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance at eventbrite.com and $25 at the door.
