In Summary 6/5/2025

Jun 10, 2025 | In Summary

Mike Chmielewski and Emily Forstner are discussing the school board meeting Wednesday, June 4th.

The adoption of the budget was discussed at the meeting. Unfortunately, little can be decided until June 19th, when decisions will be made about House Bill 57. The governor has the potential to veto, delete, or reduce the education funding. Durham School Services announced opening contract negotiations with the district, and hopefully, a contract beneficial to all will be signed this summer. A 5-year agreement with UAA was entered to continue middle college, dual enrollment, and GED credits. The superintendent’s report showed amazing progress in five years; the Matsu Valley schools’ failure or incomplete rate decreased to 4% from 20%. The next meeting will be August 6th, as the June meeting was cancelled.

Congratulations to the Palmer High School Soccer Team for winning the state championship! Go Moose!
