Someone once said, “only boring people get bored.” That doesn’t apply to us because we live in a very un-boring area. Here are several stimulating things to do this weekend in the Greater PalmerMetroPlex and beyond.
Friday Fling opens tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the downtown Palmer Pavillion and runs through August 14. Explore handmade goods from local crafters and offerings from local food trucks. Live music is from Sergio Adam this week. The Friday Flings are a great start to a wonderful weekend.
The Palmer Museum of History and Art hosts an Artist of the Week at Friday Flings. The museum features artist Sam Chadwick this week. Chadwick will chat with folks about her work at Friday Fling tomorrow. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest and relocated to Palmer in 2024. Chadwick creates pieces that are environmentally conscious and connected to place.
The Breakup Shakeup Backyard BBQ Competition is a laid-back, high-energy cook-off at the Bleeding Heart Brewery. This 7th annual BBQ competition is the best reason to get out of bed on Saturday. Competitors go head-to-head in categories like chicken, ribs, and a wide-open People’s Choice, where creativity takes over. The competition runs from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with cold beer, live energy, and the smell of BBQ in the air.
Saturday is a good day to continue cleaning up our great space. Help spruce up the Butte from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Green Store will have large trash bags for collecting trash and dumpsters for the collections. Come help clear the roads of trash and debris. Or join the Jonesville Cleanup in Sutton at 10 a.m.
The 4th Annual One Health Fest takes place on Saturday at the Depot. The One Health Fest celebrates the connection between people, animals, and the environment through fun, learning, and community spirit from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. Onward and Upward sponsors this free, family-friendly event. Attendees can explore nature journaling, yoga, drumming circles, art, and rock climbing. Don’t forget delicious food and a variety of engaging vendors. This year’s One Health Fest is dedicated to our local Farmers and Food producers.
The Spring/Summer Bella Kids Consignment Sale at Raven Hall is on the State Fairgrounds this weekend. More information can be found on bellakidsak.com. [bella kids ak]
Get ready for summer with the Revel Adventure Club! The Club is hosting a Summer Preview Party at the Palmer Brewing Company at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Come mingle with fellow adventurers, win fun stuff, learn about the club and Mat-Su trails, and sample some of the offerings from the Palmer Brewing Company. More information about this free event and the Revel Adventure Club is found on the club’s Facebook page.
This is a small selection of things to do in the Mat-Su if you’re afraid of becoming a boring person. Have a great weekend and we will see you outside.
