Well, it’s been a fast week and now we have another busy weekend stopping by to entertain and inform us.
The Employee Spring Craft Fair at Mat-Su Regional Hospital runs from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and tomorrow.
Conservation scientist and geographer Melanie Smith gives a talk on migratory bird travel tonight at 7:15 p.m. at Turkey Red. Learn what the data reveal about bird movements, the challenges they face, and what these findings mean locally and globally. This is part of the Mat-Su River Watershed Natural History Speaker Series from the Castle Mountain Coalition.
The Palmer FFA annual plant sale runs tomorrow and Saturday at the Palmer High Ag Building. Come get your annuals, hanging baskets, strawberries, and veggies between 9 am to 5 p.m. either day.
Celebrate the success of students at the commencement ceremony for the class of 2026 at Mat-Su College at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the Glenn Massay Theater. Congratulations to all the grads!
If you love baseball, check out the Palmer Museum of History and Art on Friday between 6 and 8 p.m. Celebrate America’s 250th anniversary during the “Alaska’s Field of Dreams” reception. Alaska State Historian Katie Ringsmuth will give a talk on baseball in Alaska. Explore the stories, legends, and moments that shaped baseball across the state.
Join the Palmer spring cleanup on Saturday. Pick up a bag at the Palmer Sports Center after 9 a.m. Fill it with trash from around town and return it. Kids can enter a drawing to win a bike provided by the Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce. A free BBQ starts at 11:30 a.m.
Alaska Extreme Four-wheelers is hosting the Knik Area Clean-Up. Meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Jim Creek Campground. Raffles, swag, and more, including food at the event will make this a fun event.
We honor moms on Sunday.
Take mom to the Musk Ox farms for the Annual Mother’s Day and Musk Oxen event. Moms enter free. All others by donation. There will be crafts, enrichment activities, and of course, the musk oxen! The event runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. More information is at muskoxfarm.org
Is Mom sick of flowers? You can show Mom you care by taking her out to the drag races on Sunday. The Mother’s Day Season Opener launches the drag-racing season at Alaska Raceway Park. More information on Alaska Raceway Park Facebook page.
