It’s time for Page Two: News that might not make the front page for Friday March 27, 2026.

Here are a few things happening this weekend:

Get your Golden Ticket! “Willy Wonka” opens tonight at 7 p.m. at the Glenn Massay Theater. Roald Dahl’s classic tale is brought to life with songs and music. “Willy Wonka” is scrumdidilyumptious sugar-coated fun for the whole family. Tickets and show information for the two-week run are available at vpaalaska.org.

The Mat-Su Valley Home School Prom is tonight at the Palmer Depot. Homeschoolers ages 14 and up are welcome. A live DJ and a jazz band will provide the tunes. The prom runs from 6:30 until 11:30 p.m. 

Tomorrow adds another day of fun to the great life here in the Mat-Su. Here’s a run down on a few Saturday events:

First off, a cancellation. The LGBQT+ Youth and Allies Summit has been cancelled. The Queens Guard will reschedule it.

Melinda Mitchell will be at Fireside Books from 10 a.m. until noon to sign her latest book, “Fortunate Son.” It’s a science fiction re-telling of the David/Jonathan/Michal biblical story. 

The 2026 Young Entrepreneur Expo is at Everett’s at 1850 East Bogard Road in Wasilla from noon to 4 p.m. The Expo provides youth with real-world opportunities to develop, launch, and showcase their own small businesses in a supportive community setting. All are welcome.

The Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce annual fundraiser is at the Events Center at the Purple Gate on Alaska State Fairgrounds from 6 to 9 p.m. The theme is “All Signs Lead to Palmer.” It celebrates the pride we share in our community.

Funds raised at the event will help purchase road signs leading to Palmer. This will increase the visibility of the town. More information available at palmerchamber.org

The Mat-Su Sentinel Icebreaker benefits our local nonprofit newsroom. Get ready for some fun and join in for a one-of-a-kind, family-friendly night at the MTA Events Center in Palmer! Skate to live music or dance it out on an ice-free floor to tunes by The Super Saturated Sugar Strings.

Eat, drink, and celebrate the local community while supporting nonprofit local journalism. The event runs from 7 until 10 p.m. The MTA Events Center is at 1317 South Kerry Weiland Court, across the street from the sports fields at Palmer Junior Middle School. Ticket information is at matsusentinel.com.

The Denali Cooks will be playing at the Government Peak Chalet for the Birchtree Charter School Benefit Auction. The Birchtree Borealis is a high-energy night of food, music, community, and an amazing auction.

It runs from 5:30 to 10 p.m. Proceeds support the 7th grade class trip to Washington, DC. Ticket information available at Birchtreecharterschool.com. Really, check out the auction items. They are awesome.

That’s quite a lineup of events on Saturday to choose from. 

The Celebration of Life for Sarah Welton will be on Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Palmer Depot. Please come and share memories of Welton with her family and friends and sing some of her favorite hymns. There will be a light reception following the Service. 

That’s a quick look at some of the events happening around the Greater Palmer Metroplex and Beyond. Have a fantastic weekend!

Monday is Seward’s Day. It commemorates the purchase of Alaska from Russia. Borough and state offices will be closed. State courts will not be in session. 

Time is ticking away. The deadline to apply for the PFD is this Tuesday, March 31 at 11:59 p.m. Don’t forget to apply!
