It’s time for Page Two: News that might not make the front page on Thursday March 19, 2026.

The spring equinox is tomorrow. The exact moment the sun is directly above the equator is at 6:46:45 a.m.

Here is a list of fun things to do in the Mat-Su to help pass the time while we wait for warmer weather to grace us with an appearance.

The nationally recognized acapella singing group Ball in the House is on the Friday Night List of Fun. Join the Palmer Arts Council and Alaska Junior Theater for a night of singing, dancing, and even beatboxing in the Colony High Theater. Buy tickets at palmerarts.org.

There’s more on Friday, with a return performance on Saturday. Blackwater Railroad returns to the Palmer Alehouse. Doors open at 6 p.m., music starts at 7 p.m. Come hear over a dozen new songs. This free all ages show has limited seating. Attendees under 21 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Tickets for all attendees are $20 each. There’s no reason to stay home on Saturday either.

Are you a scout or curious about scouting? The Mat-Su Community Jamboree is at the Borough Gym. Enjoy activity stations like archery and the rain gutter regatta! Indulge your creative side with arts and crafts! The Jamboree is hosted by the Great Alaska Council, Scouting America. It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Entry fee is $5 per person or $15 for the whole family! Food trucks will be on site if you need a snack!

Shaun P. plays Hatcher Pass Lodge from 4 to 7 p.m.

Drew Sablon with special guest Little Ronnie Wof plays the Fishhook Bar from 7 to 11 p.m.

Roller Derby returns! Cheer on our own Denali Destroyer Dolls as their face off against Rage City’s Devil’s Club. The bout is at Raven Hall on the Fairgrounds. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the first whistle is at 7 p.m. Advance ticket link is in the Facebook event.

Also included in Saturday’s List of Nifty Stuff is the book signing at Fireside Books by local author Brad Alexander. He will be signing copies of his book “Behind the Mask of Ramon Raccoon” from noon to 3 p.m. Free copies of the book will be available as long as supplies last.

Sunday brings a few interesting things to whittle away the moments of a chilly Spring Day.

The Palmer Arts Council is hosting a literary discussion about Artificial Intelligence and Literature. Come share your thoughts and reading recommendations at the Palmer Brewing Company starting at 3:00 p.m. Local author Michele Harmeling will start off the conversation! Everyone is welcome.

New to tabletop gaming? Join Dungeon Master Zach for a Dungeons & Dragons new player workshop. You’ll be guided through the magical world of tabletop role-playing games at Game Theory in Wasilla from 3 to 6 p.m. Game Theory is located at 500 East Swanson Ave. Space is limited at this free event.
