It’s time for Page Two: News that might not make the front page for Thursday March 12, 2026.
The Robotz with Turbo and the Butterfly play tonight at the Palmer Alehouse Unplugged. Music starts at 6 p.m. for the 21 and over event.
Another fun filled weekend in the Greater Palmer Metroplex is coming right at us. Here are some of the activities.
There’s High School Hockey to be had! The State 18UB Hockey Tournament will be at the Menard Sports Center. Games start at 8 a.m. on Friday and run all weekend. Come support our local hockey players. Admission is free.
Aurora Realms: A Gamer Convention for LGBTQIA2S+ and Allies is at the Borough Gym on Saturday. Come for a day of gaming, community, and creativity. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is sponsored by The Queen’s Guard.
The 12th annual Crazy Lazy Mountain Run is on Saturday at 11 a.m. It’s Alaska’s only winter mountain race. The race starts at the Lazy Mountain Trailhead. Due to limited parking, participants must take a shuttle from the Lazy Mountain Bible Church parking lot to the trailhead. Come watch the crazies run up and down Lazy Mountain. Dress warm! Cold weather warnings abound.
The rescheduled book signing with Sam Jordan at Fireside Books is on Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. Sam will be signing copies of his book “What The Water Knows”.
The Glacier Blues Band plays the Silver Fox Inn in Wasilla on Saturday. This is the band’s first time playing at the Fox. Doors open at 4 p.m. and the band takes the stage at 7 p.m.
Braided River is playing Saturday at the Bleeding Heart Brewery. This is a celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. Probably a good idea to wear some green. Nobody wants a nasty pinch. Music starts at 4 p.m. Come early to get the corned beef and cabbage special before it runs out.
Bug in a Rug plays Hatcher Pass Lodge from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday.
On Sunday, Friends of the Palmer Public Library will host an all ages St. Patrick’s Day Celebration from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Palmer Depot. It’s a fundraiser for the new Palmer Public Library.
It includes the “Palmer’s Dash for the Gold” race. There’s a one-mile fun run for kids 10 & under and a 5K & 10K for all ages. It starts at 2 p.m. The races are co-hosted by AKtive Soles. Register at aktivesoles.com. The fun run for kids is free.
All are welcome to join a short parade behind the Depot prior to the start of the races. Costumes and noise makers are encouraged. Join in making a joyful noise to celebrate our new library. Toss a donation into the “Pot of Gold” near the race start arch.
After the race, enjoy Irish folk music and dance in the Depot. Entry is free and donations are welcome. Merchandise and light refreshments will be for sale. Thanks to AKtive Soles for donating all the race proceeds to the new Palmer library. Palmer is definitely “The Little Engine That Could.”
