Bright Up The Night at the State Fairgrounds continues through Sunday January 4! It runs from 5 to 9 p.m each night. It was closed last night due to the winds. If you had a ticket for last night, check your email to receive a refund or exchange for another day. Cost at the gate is $25 per car. Check alaskastatefair.org for updates or to buy an advance ticket for $22.
Tomorrow Is New Year’s Eve.
With the lack of snow and fire danger please be careful if you’re using fireworks. As of 6 a.m. this morning we found no changes to the permitting of personal fireworks on New Year’s Eve.
Fireworks are permitted in Palmer for private use from 9 p.m. on New Year’s Eve to 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
In the Mat-Su Borough and in Wasilla personal fireworks are permitted from 6 p.m on New Year’s Eve to 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Houston has its own fireworks guidelines.
All personal use fireworks must be on private property with owner permission. Keep fireworks away from structures, schools, hospitals, flammable storage, structures, and waterways.
The New Year’s Eve bash at Menards Sports Center is family friendly with ice skating, batting cages, games, bounce houses, and a giant scavenger hunt. It runs from 5 to 8 p.m.
Everetts is hosting a New Year’s Eve celebration. Doors open at 4 p.m. Fireworks are at 8 p.m. Free family fun includes fire pits, deck games, free cocoa for kids’, a game room, selfie station, and party favors. Bring your ice skates.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve at Hatcher pass lodge from 9 p.m. to midnight with The Midnight Sons and Uncle Salmontooth Bluegrass Band.
The big New Year’s Eve event is the fireworks at the Iditapark in Wasilla. Arrive at 7 p.m. for free giveaways, coffee, cocoa, cider, and more. The fireworks start at 8 p.m.
The Glenn Massay Theater and Valley Performing Arts have amazing theater productions coming up.
The Magician’s Nephew opens January 9 at Valley Performing Arts. Digory and his friend Polly set forth on a series of magical adventures with his uncle’s magic rings in this classic C.S. Lewis story. Get your tickets online at VPAalaska.org. The play runs Friday and Saturday nights and Sunday matinees through January 25.
Aladdin Junior opens at the Glen Massey theater on January 16. This Siems theater production features young local talent who bring the classic story to life. Purchase tickets at glennmassaytheater.com. The show runs Friday and Saturday nights and Saturday matinees for three weekends through January 31.
Newsies opens at the Glenn Massay on February 19. Kelly Rentz directs this Colony High production. Jamin Burton directs the orchestra. Pam Burlingame, Hannah Brooke, and Lily Foster direct the choreography. The show runs Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights through March 7. Purchase tickets at glennmassaytheater.com.
