It’s time for Page Two: News that might not make the front page for Monday, December 8, 2025.

School is cancelled today for most of the borough due to the windstorm. Schools are open in Region 6 in the North Susitna Valley. This includes Talkeetna and Willow.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough is updating the Government Peak Recreation Area Plan. An open house on the plan is on December 10 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the GPRA Chalet, 10690 N Mountain Trails Dr.

GPRA opened in 2012. Since then, it has grown into a favorite destination for year-round recreation. The current plan was created in 2017.

This new plan addresses increased use and evolving needs at GPRA. The goal is for GPRA to serve the community for years to come. For links to the plans, a survey, and more info, click on the link on matsu.gov home page.

An open house on the proposed Jonesville Shooting Range and Park is on Thursday, December 11, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the Sutton Elementary School Gym.

Attendees can review the plans, speak with the project team, and share their knowledge of the site. These plans were revised using feedback from the first public meeting.

The project aims to improve safety and enhance recreation in the Jonesville Public Use Area. Jonesville is a popular multi-use outdoor area. It has faced unsafe shooting, vandalism, and vehicle burning.

The Matanuska-Susitna Borough proposes a designated shooting park. Existing recreational uses will continue along with family-friendly activities. Partners in this process include  Alaska DNR, ADF&G, and local stakeholders.

Ongoing public involvement is planned. Review the plans and submit through the project’s website

The website link is on today’s Page 2 Facebook post and bigcabbageradio.org. (It was too long to speak).
