It’s time for Page Two: news that might not make the front page for Wednesday October 29, 2025.

First up, the big news is that last night at the Palmer City Council meeting, the council awarded the bid for construction of the new library. We’ll have more details on Mayor’s Minutes tomorrow at 7:30 a.m.

What’s your plan for Halloween? Do you stay home and hand out candy to trick or treaters? Do you go out trick or treating with kids? Do you stay home and hide from the trick or treaters? Or do you go out? Here are some kid-friendly ideas if you want to get out on Friday. 

2:30 p.m. – 8:45 pm, There’s a Trick or Treat Skate Party at the MTA Events Center, 1317 S Kerry Weiland Ct. in Palmer with skating, activities and smiles. Public Skate costs $5 and includes skate rental. Show up in costume to get in free.

Here are the skate times for various ages:

2:30 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – families with toddlers and strollers 

4:45 p.m. – 6:45 p.m. – families with elementary kids 

7 p.m. – 9 p.m. all ages 

From 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. is the Halloween Hollow at Raven Hall on the State Fair Grounds. This annual benefit for Mat-Su Special Santa has an entry fee of $6 or 1 new unwrapped toy per person. The evening includes candy, games and food. Please note: all adults must be mask-free. 

From 4 p.m. – 10 p.m. Ghostbusters+ Movie Party at the Youth Archive, 918 S Colony Way, Palmer. Archive members and guests are invited. To become a member, a teen must fill out a member form, sign the conduct pledge, and have their guardian sign the insurance waiver. Teens over 18 sign their own waiver. This event is free.

From 5 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. It’s the KomBOOOcha Halloween Open Mic hosted by Turbo and the Butterfly at 203 Kombucha.

From 5 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. there’s the Haunted Hallways at Colony High hosted by JROTC. Entry is $5 per person or $20 for a group of 6. Games in the upper area are $3 per person or $12 for a group of 6.

A few other tidbits for you:

Today the Matanuska Community Farmers Market will be open from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the basement of the log church in Palmer. 

And at 6 p.m. tonight at the Glenn Massay Theater is Shaped by Wildlife, a storytelling event hosted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game and Arctic Entries. Tickets are $5. 

Also tonight at 6:30 p.m. is a trapping education seminar for dog owners at Back Country Bike and Ski in Palmer. The event is free and no registration required.

Tomorrow the City of Palmer and RESPEC are holding an open house at the Palmer Depot from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Learn about the Central Business District Parking and Pedestrian Access Plan and give your input.

We all get an extra hour of sleep Saturday night. Daylight savings time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday when the clocks “fall back” an hour. 

Sat. Nov. 8 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Lekker Coffee and Baking Co. is The Cabbage Hop fundraiser for Big Cabbage Radio with DJ Achileez heel, gift card silent auction, and tasty treats. The cover is $20.
