It’s time for Page Two: news that might not make the front page for Tuesday, October 28, 2025.

Tonight the Palmer City Council meets at 6 p.m.

The agenda includes a public hearing on the ordinance to prohibit unauthorized camping within city limits.

There is also a committee of the whole discussion on 

  1. The 2026 5-year Capital Improvements Program
  2. The ordinance prohibits sleeping on sidewalks, streets, alleys or within doorways.
  3. City Council Annual Contracts

    2. Big Cabbage Radio Contract Options

The Matanuska Community Farmers Market will be tomorrow from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the basement of the log church in Palmer. There will be one more market on Wednesday November 19.

On Wednesday at the Glenn Massay Theater is Shaped by Wildlife, a storytelling event hosted by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game in collaboration with Arctic Entries.

The 6 p.m. Gallery Hour includes “Stories of the Road, ” real-life accounts from drivers who have been involved in a moose-vehicle collision or a near-miss and art submissions from the Shaped by Wildlife Student Art Contest.

Theater doors open at 6:40 p.m. and the stories start 7:00 p.m. Hear stories about interactions with wildlife that have shaped the lives of the story tellers. Musical guest Aspenyarrow and artist Melissa Shaginoff will also share the stage.

Tickets are $5 each in advance from GlennMassay.com or you can purchase tickets at the door.

Also on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. is a trapping education seminar for dog owners at Back Country Bike and Ski in Palmer.

Learn about trapping awareness and avoidance and how to recognize the signs of a trap line. Also learn how to successfully release your pet from the kinds of traps legally used in Alaska.

Get hands-on practice releasing several different kinds of traps. The seminar is put on by local trail enthusiasts Bill Mohrwinkel and Mark Moeller.

The event is free and no registration required.

On Thursday the City of Palmer and RESPEC are holding an open house from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Palmer Depot. Learn about the Central Business District Parking and Pedestrian Access Plan and give your input.

Also on Thursday from 6 p.m to 9 p.m. at the Palmer Alehouse you can listen to Steve Norwood in the upstairs lounge.

And a reminder. The Mat-Su Borough election is next Tuesday, November 4.

Today is the last day the borough will accept by-mail absentee ballot requests.

You can vote early for the at the following locations through November 3:

  • The Mat-Su Borough Building from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday
  • The Division of Elections Mat-Su Regional Office at 1700 E. Bogard Road from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday with weekend voting on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. 
  • During regular business hours Monday through Friday at Houston City Hall, Talkeetna Public Library, and Trapper Creek Public Library.
