Jeff Curtis, CEO of the Alaska State Fair, joins Mike Chmielewski on Valley Edition.

Jeff Curtis’s first impression of the Alaska State Fair. What he noticed most was that, despite the not-so-perfect weather, the community’s response and love for the fair were overwhelming. This year will be Jeff’s third fair, and he talks to Mike about the new changes while still preserving the agricultural roots of the fair. Changes include a new events center being constructed by the purple gate. The events center will be used year-round, but for this year’s fair, it offers new bathrooms, a nursing area for mothers, and changing tables that are handicapped accessible. Traffic has always been an issue, but the divided highway should be finished before the beginning of the fair. The second area where waiting occurs is the ticket lines. You can get a discount on tickets by purchasing online at alaskastatefair.org. The online ticket sales stop on August 14th. A shout-out went to Becky and the Garden Team. Did you know that a majority of all the flowers you see on the fairgrounds were grown right there?
