Dr. Riki Ott on the 25th Anniversary of the Oil Spill

Mar 23, 2014 | Other Programming

Mike Chmielewski interviews Dr Riki Ott from the perspective of the 25th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
Dr Ott was able to combine both a hands on perspective of life as a fisher person in Prince William Sound with academic training as a toxicologist.
In the interview she recounts the details of the spill in the first days after it happened. She then reviews the continued impact of the spill, and implications of other spills. She also suggests what has been learned – and perhaps forgotten – about the effects of just being around large quantities of oil. Finally she point to some ways in which individuals can influence changes in our attitudes toward, preparation for, and perhaps avoidance of, the next spill.
Broadcast on KVRF at 7 PM Monday  March 23 and 5 PM Tuesday March 24.
